George Mitchell, a/k/a Fishbelly Black is back with a new release slated for release in November 2019. Expect more funky, dance driven jazz, heavy on the Hammond B3 and alto sax.
Old school jazz players paired with the modern technology of hip hop breaks and beats. George Mitchell, producer and writer, brings together live sax, Hammond B-3, drums, bass, and guitar, and pairs them with raps breaks and beats. As he describes it, “Jimmy Smith meets Maceo Parker in the 90s.” Fishbelly Black, originally a studio project, took off after “Spontaneous Combustion” became an underground hit in London in ’93. After numerous requests to take the band overseas, he did just that; put together a group of top notch players and what started as 3 sold out shows at the Jazz Cafe, later became an entire week at Ronnie Scotts. The band quickly made a name for itself overseas, playing festivals and clubs throughout Europe.
