Since 1983, at the age of 12, Hakim has been controlling 2 turntables. He started after
being inspired by his 2 older cousins, DJ joey jazz and MRB. After developing his reputation in the club and party scene in the Washington DC and Maryland area, Hakim soon ventured into production and mcing utilizing his "tools of the trade," the SP-1200, ASR-10 and Fender Rhodes. After doing some production work on various 12" and CD's (including a track on the highly aclaimed first Fishbelly Black CD) Hakim moled away in the studio and came up with the "Hakimulistimuli" (a name that describes the different moods of his music.)
The album is a blend of different fruits touching jazz, soul and hip hop. The blend revolves around jazzy samples, real acoustic instruments and players and a mix of drum loops and programming. Hakim describes it as "warm, funky as ssshhhhiiiii head noding music. There is something for the jazz heads, mcs to rap to and the djs to spin."
Along with making mix tapes Hakim is currently in production and mcing with the FIVE BROS. MC's.
